Major Responsibilities:
The Project Manager reports directly to Head of Major Projects, N.A. Zone. The Project Manager is responsible for all aspects of executing industrial manufacturing facility projects (both “grass root” and expansion based). Key areas include:

  • Consistent with our Client's highest priority being safety, must exhibit the highest regard for employee and contractor safety, strict adherence to Client specific construction based life safety rules, procedures and safety culture. Must also be capable of providing good judgment for risk assessment and overall management
  • Will interface with Global Business Unit (GBU) management throughout project implementation and will communicate progress to the Project Steering Committee on a monthly basis, at a minimum
  • Will typically lead a team of 3-5 team members consistent with the overall project size and scope
  • Will manage the procurement of EPCM and Construction contract resources necessary to support the project. Also Coordinate with BU site to support project permitting
  • Will manage and direct EPCM contractors through all phases of Project Execution and with a high experience of Front End Loading (FEL) practices and detailed engineering and design work sequences
  • Management of HSE aspects during engineering and design, and through construction phases, aligned with GBU host site safe work practices
  • Is responsible for use of other capital best practices as appropriate (e.g. constructability reviews, value engineering sessions, risk analysis and management, execute change control consistent with the established Delegation of Authority, assessment schedule compression techniques...) to ensure consistency in project development and predictability in project execution through adherence to company processes and protocols
  • Will assess, along with the procurement resources assigned, in selection of the preferred contracting strategies consistent with the project objectives and benefits to Client. In addition, will be required to oversee the procurement process including development of the RFQ, bid review and tabulation, vendor selection, and purchasing agreement terms and conditions negotiations
  • Will be responsible for delivery of the project’s scope of work as agreed to with the sponsoring Business Unit and consistent with the project’s safety goals and protocols, regulatory requirements, established budget and schedule duration
  • Will be responsible for the monitoring and reporting of project progress for scope, cost and schedule, throughout execution and be capable of implementing any corrective actions required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS in an Engineering discipline is required. Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree is preferred
  • Candidate must have a demonstrated a track record of successful project management on medium size industrial capital projects (>$10M) and experience in working within and/or managing international project teams is preferred
  • Must have a minimum history of 8 years in project management experience in the successful execution and completion of large projects
  • Must have a demonstrated leadership history in supervising direct reports and third party engineering contractors within virtual engineering teams in the successful completion of projects through commissioning and startup activities. Management of international project teams will also be a consideration
  • Experience in managing projects for schedules using the Critical Path Method (CPM), PERT charts and Gantt charts. Experience with MS Project and/or Primavera based schedule software is preferred, from direct use and/or direct involvement when used by EPCM and construction contractors

Required Skills:

  • Must be able to lead problem solving teams to address complex issues using the best industry practices and most cost effective solutions
  • Must be able to define capital projects including the project scope, the business case justification, the expected results, the determination of project costs, and completion of project documentation consistent with Front End Loading (FEL) requirements and best practices
  • Understanding of engineering discipline design sequence and integration for overall design delivery, and integration to downstream construction packages
  • Upon project approval, person must be able to manage the capital project including the costs, schedule, functional group activities, and communication to all levels of the organization
  • Good command of English language mandatory

** Travel is anticipated to approx. 30%,  but will vary with project complexity, project phase and resource availability. Travel both domestic and international will be required
